VLE Sites

Worknet Solutions Ltd was founded by Dr Alastair Rogers in 1996. The company has provided consultancy in the use of computer systems to support collaboration and business processes (sometimes called Computer Supported Cooperative Working) and project management. Increasingly, the company has been involved in developing websites for small businesses, schools and charities. The sites are designed so that the content can be updated by the owners without any technical expertise. The company now has a portfolio of over 50 sites including a number of large e-commerce sites.

Education has been a significant interest for the founder, Alastair Rogers, who has been a school governor for many years and is currently Chair of Governors at Creeting St Mary CEVAP School and has also been a governor at Cedars Park, Stowmarket. As a result of that interest, he developed Governorsonline.co.uk which is a system to support school governing bodies. The system is made available to schools in Suffolk as part of the governors support package and is in use in about half the schools in Suffolk.

The development of the Virtual Learning Environment was also the result of work in primary schools helping to support ICT teaching. It was clear many of the solutions on offer required considerable work from teachers just to set them up and make them useful in the classroom. The SchoolSitesOnline.co.uk VLE was designed as a package which would provide a custom designed system for the school that would be ready to be used in the classroom.

The system has also been designed to be easy to use. A major part of the site is based on a similar concept to Facebook so users can easily post messages and comments on the site. Other features are also available to allow the creation of new web pages, picture slide shows etc.

Onging support is provided for all schools using the system and new features will continue to be added to increase the power of the VLE.
